A. Jorge Parola received his PhD in Physical Chemistry from Universidade NOVA de Lisboa in 1998, after which he made a post-doc at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry, University of Fribourg, Switzerland. He is presently Full Professor at the Department of Chemistry of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, teaching inorganic chemistry and physical chemistry. He supervised or co-supervised 6 Post-doc researchers, 20 PhD (9 running) and 21 MSc students. He is co-author of 7 book chapters, 10 proceedings and over 170 papers (h-index 34, Scopus), and holds 3 patents.

His research interests are centred on supramolecular photochemistry, molecular machines, development of chromogenic materials for applications (photo-, electro- and thermochromic systems), all involving natural or designed dyes. He runs the Responsive Materials research line of the Cultural Heritage and Responsive Materials group (CHARM) at the Green Chemistry Associated Laboratory (LAQV-REQUIMTE). Main scientific achievements relate with the synthesis and photochemical characterisation of host-guest systems. A collaboration with the YDreams company led to the creation in 2010 (by YDreams) of Ynvisible, a spin-off on chromogenic materials. Major funding for research raised from national calls (4 projects as PI, team member in 23), QREN technological projects (6) and EU projects (9 projects, 1 running, local coordinator in 3).

Maria de Lurdes dos Santos Cristiano (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9447-2855) is full professor of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Algarve (FCT / UAlg). Integrated member of the Center for Marine Sciences - CCMar/CIMAR-LA (since 2006). PI of the Organic Reactivity and Medicinal Chemistry group of CCMar (OrgMedChem; https://www.ccmar.ualg.pt/en/group/organic-reactivity-and- medicinal-chemistry). Member of the IUPAC sub-committee "Structural and Mechanistic Chemistry" (since 2008); Member of the "International Steering Committee for European Symposia on Organic Reactivity" since 2007. Director of the 1st degree/Licenciate course in Chemistry (1996-2003); Head of the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy (2013-2015 and 2006-2008). Chair of international conferences /meetings, held at UAlg / CCMar: ESOR XI, ICPOC 24 and EPICHEMBIO; involvement as committee member in more than 30 Chemistry conferences held outside UAlg. Authored 97 peer reviewed articles (ISI/WoK), 5 book chapters and 6 registered patents. Delivered over 60 lectures in meetings. Supervision of 11 PhD and 43 MSc thesis, and 30 honours projects. João Borges is a Senior Researcher at the Department of Chemistry and CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. He received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Porto in 2013. His research focuses on the molecular design, synthesis and development of biofunctional supramolecular multicomponent biomaterials to be used as bioinstructive matrices to control cell functions and as platforms for controlled drug delivery. He is the recipient of several honors and awards. He has been elected Chemistry Europe Fellow (Class of 2022/2023), Fellow of the Young Academy of Europe (YAE), Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC), Member of the Global Young Academy (GYA) and Young Academy of Portugal of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, and received the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Periodic Table of Younger Chemists Award (2019). Beyond his academic activity and scientific impact, João has been devoted to connecting, mentoring, and empowering early-career scientists in advancing their professional development. In addition, he has been strongly committed to delivering a positive social impact by being invested in science communication, outreach, policy and diplomacy as a member of the GYA, YAE, Young Academy of Portugal, International Younger Chemists Network (IYCN), and European Young Chemists’ Network (EYCN). He is a Past Chair of the IYCN. João is currently a National Representative of the IYCN Standing Committee at IUPAC and co-chair of the Global Conversation on Sustainability – a joint project by the IYCN and IUPAC which aims to tackle the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by raising awareness and implementing sustainable practices globally. João is a member of several professional scientific organizations, including the RSC, the American Chemical Society (ACS), the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB), the Portuguese Chemical Society (SPQ), and IUPAC.
